A Sneak Peak into CES 2015

Share

We are expecting 2015 to be a big year in smart home and home theater technology, and it all kicks off in Las Vegas at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which runs from January 6 – 9th. While there is no way to know exactly what new gadgets will be showcased and what new technology unveiled, here is what we hope and expect to see from some of the big names.

Sony

On the TV front, the company released this quote in preparation of its pre-conference presser, saying that it promises to unveil, “the latest products and technology in 4K UHD, Hi-Res Audio, Digital Imaging and Mobile.” Could this mean that we might also be seeing a more affordable 4K TV?

Additionally, we expect Sony to make a big splash in wearable technology, which will certainly include more on its Core fitness tracker.

Samsung

Of all the major players, Samsung may be the one most shrouded in mystery. It released this statement in its formal CES 2015 invitations, stating that the press conference will be “a journey to discover Samsung’s latest innovations that will create new possibilities and shape the future.” Yet on the other hand, Kim Hyun-suk, Samsung’s head of visual display was quoted as saying, “there will be no surprise shows.” So there may be no telling what Samsung has in store.

Probably the only thing we know for sure is that we will get a look at the new Tizen TV. Last year, Samsung showed off the bendable TV to great success, so we expect to see more of the sloped screens.

LG

Unlike Samsung, LG has already given us a peek into what we will see in Vegas. They unveiled a new line of 4K UHD TVs that use quantum dot technology for better color saturation and wider palette. This technology can help improve the picture color reproduction rate by more than 30% while also improving the screen’s overall brightness. We expect to see a lot of this line at CES. Another thing to maybe get excited about is LG’s new flexible 18-inch OLED display. While, obviously smaller than the wow-factor jumbo-sized screens we most-often see, this flexing technology could help consumers fit larger screens in tight or unconventional spaces.

Additionally, there have been some whispers that indicate we will also be talking about webOS, wearable technology, and a handful of smart home products.

Others include...

We also expect to see something new from Sharp – most likely in the TV realm, while Nvidia will continue bring something more to automotive technologies. Android Wear should be unveiling a new line of wearables, and we are crossing our fingers that Apple shows us the new AppleiWatch. And despite making a big splash in 2014, it doesn’t appear that Valve will be attending in 2015. Other companies, however, like Alienware, Maingear, and Gigabyte should be there to show off more of the new Steam Machine gaming technology.

Regardless of which predictions pan out and which don’t, there should be no shortage of surprises and innovations that guarantee to make 2015 to an even bigger year than 2014.
