Randy McMichael, a gritty tight end and strong pass blocker, isn't getting any younger.
Clearly, the Chargers are.
San Diego has released the respected veteran, a league source said Tuesday morning. The move was expected, as McMichael was due a $250,000 roster bonus, making him bound to be the latest seasoned Chargers veteran to hit the open market.
Linebacker Takeo Spikes, 36, and Atari Bigby, 31, were recently released. Nose tackle Antonio Garay, 33, is expected to be unless his contract is reworked. Cornerback Quentin Jammer, 33, and linebacker Demorrio Williams, 32, are among those who will become unrestricted free agents Tuesday.
McMichael, who will turn 34 in June, spent three seasons with San Diego. His release saves $1.5 million in cap space.
