In case having a touchdown erased wasn't punishment enough.
The NFL has fined Chargers rookie outside linebacker Melvin Ingram $15,750 for a hit on Saints quarterback Drew Brees last Sunday night, an NFL spokesman said Friday.
It was ruled that Ingram "struck the quarterback in the head and neck area," he said in an email.
Ingram's hit came late in the third quarter.
The first-round pick lowered the crown of his helmet and hit Brees just after the veteran's release of an errant pass. Chargers inside linebacker Demorrio Williams intercepted the ball, returning it for a touchdown.
The score would have given the Chargers a 31-14 lead.
