Randy Harvey

Randy Harvey was named associate editor in July 2009. He is overseeing the ongoing transformation of the newsroom into a 24/7 operation, feeding print, the Web, mobile devices, television, radio, Twitter, Facebook and whatever platforms might emerge to enable the Los Angeles Times to better connect with its audience. Harvey also is the point person for editorial with other departments within The Times -- advertising, marketing, circulation and operations -- in developing company- and corporate-wide initiatives.

Harvey joined The Times in 1981 as a reporter, focusing primarily on the Olympics and other international events before becoming a columnist in 1996. He was named senior assistant Sports editor in 2000 and, after two years at the Baltimore Sun as assistant managing editor/Sports, was named The Times' Sports editor in 2006. During his three years in that role, The Times' Sports section accelerated its conversion to the Web and other multimedia platforms while maintaining an award-winning print product.

A native of Texas, Harvey has a journalism degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He also worked at the Tyler, Texas, Morning Telegraph; Austin American-Statesman; Dallas Times Herald; Chicago Sun-Times; and the New York Daily News.
