LOS ANGELES, May 29, 2009 – Brand X (www.thisisbrandx.com), a news, arts & culture blog and weekly publication from the Los Angeles Times Media Group, invites creators, producers and storytellers to submit three-minute videos about what it means to live in next-generation Los Angeles. Nine contest winners will be selected to screen at Film Independent’s Los Angeles Film Festival on June 26 and a grand prize winner will be chosen. Video submissions will be judged by Timothy Shey, Next New Networks co-founder and head of entertainment, Josh Rubin, Cool Hunting editor-in-chief, and Nic Harcourt, president of SamLuna Media and former music director for KCRW.

Brand X’s “L.A. in Short” video contest submissions are being hosted online by Ning (www.iambrandx.ning.com), the infinitely customizable social networking platform, to enhance the collaborative and dynamic nature of the project.

“Brand X is as much about modern media – the intersection of art and technology – as it is about the stories that are produced via those mediums. So the ‘L.A. in Short’ video contest is a perfect manifestation of our vision in so many ways,” said Deborah Vankin, editor of Brand X. “We’re excited about fostering the talent of anyone with a camera and an inspiration and giving them the opportunity to be seen online and at the LA Film Festival.”
