Bo Derek, forever famous for her role in the movie “10,” is a horse fan and author of “Riding Lessons: Everything That Matters in Life I Learned From Horses.” The International Polo Club Palm Beach is celebrating anniversary No. 10. Do the math.
Derek will throw out the first polo ball of the four-month IPC season on Jan. 6, with the first match at 3 p.m. Tickets range from $10 for general admission to $120 for box seating. Tickets for Sunday brunch at The Pavilion and its reception begin at $55.
"It has taken a great deal of dedication and hard work to get to where we are today," said IPC president John Wash, in a press statement. "We continue to attract not only the top players and teams from around the globe, but we have managed to attract and keep the top polo tournaments in North America with the C.V. Whitney Cup, the USPA PIAGET Gold Cup, and the prestigious USPA Maserati 109th U.S. Open Championship."
The upcoming IPC season will include appearances by all eight of the world's 10-goal polo players (the highest ranking in the game), as well as the highest-rated American player, Julio Arellano.
The 2013 Palm Beach Polo Season takes place through April 21. The IPC is at 3667 120th Ave. S., Wellington. Info: 561-204-5687, InternationalPoloClub.com.
