" Robert Wood, information security officer for the University of Southern California in the training room at the office of information security research." As cyber attacks increase, the demand for experts in information security also will increase, said Eric Ackerman, assistant dean at Nova Southeastern University. ¿Information security is the hottest area in all businesses,¿ said Ackerman. ¿It has a very high employment rate.¿ He said South Florida companies such as Motorola, LexisNexis and American Express have visited the school to recruit students. In the Graduate School of Computer and Information Science at NSU, students can obtain two certificates recognized by the National Security Agency. The Information System Security certificate is designed for information technology professionals, while the Administration Information Security certificate is for people who don¿t have a background in information technology: ¿This is for someone who has some experience in computers but limited,¿ explained Ackerman. Security analyst is the most popular job title for someone with this certificate, said Ackerman. Each costs around $8,700 and can be completed in a year and a half online or on campus at NSU. According to the Florida workforce agency, the average salary for a network and computer administrator is $73,500 in Broward and Palm Beach counties. Projected employment is expected to rise 22 percent by 2018 in both counties.
