Janis Joplin -- 1943 - 1970

Singer and songwriter, Janis Joplin rose to prominence in the late 1960s as the lead singer of Big Brother and the Holding Company. Joplin was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, and was given a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005.
