Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 13-year-old for grand theft of a firearm.
The boy's mom cleans houses as a source of income. This time her son was helping her clean a Spring Hills home when he ran across a rifle bag containing an AK-47 assault rifle, numerous rounds of ammunition, as well as several magazines, according to a according to a news release from the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.
After a detective contacted the boy's mom about the stolen weapon during the investigation, she was able to find the rifle bag hidden in her son’s closet, the release stated.
The rifle was returned to the owner with all of its accessories intact.
The 13-year-old 'fessed up, telling deputies he stole the weapon because he really liked it and knew that his mother would never buy him one, according to the release.
