Miami Dolphins outside linebacker Cameron Wake made a whirlwind tour of South Florida Publix locations on Tuesday, handing fans a chance to win a trip to Hawaii and the Pro Bowl next week.
Wake handed out 100 plastic leis--and entries into the drawing--as he visited locations in Miami Beach, Miami Shores, Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Plantation.
The Canadian Football League import who finished with 14 sacks this season said that he is starting to get excited about next week's trip, saying he was bringing his family along.
"Being selected is truly an honor and being able to go out there with one of the fans from here is going to be amazing," Wake said.
He also said that he hadn't spoken with his mentor, former Dolphins great Jason Taylor, recently: "Nah. The Jets, they're doing their thing. I'll stay out of there right now, but whatever they go through, Jason's always been a guy who's been supportive of me. We'll talk when that's over with."
And, when asked about what he thought of the retention of coach Tony Sparano, Wake flashed two thumbs up: "I'm glad to have him back. Keep that consistency. Obviously, I've been a guy who has been in his corner, as he was in mine when I needed it most."Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
