If you see a really cool BMX bike parked somewhere that seems to be screaming "take me home" then you're either about to star on ABC's hidden camera, ethical dilemma series What Would You Do? hosted by With John Quinones...or you could be busted if you spin out of control and swipe the bike.
Deputies set up a “bait bicycle” sting operation in Port Charlotte Thursday and busted a couple, Robert William Isaacs, 28, and his girlfriend Jaime Melissa Wyatt, 36, who also had their 14-month-old baby with them, according to a news release ferom the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies set-up a BMX bicycle -- along with undercover surveillance of the bicycle from an unmarked vehicle -- in the Charlotte Harbor area.
Sure enough, a green 1996 Ford Aerostar van drove by very slowly, made a U-turn, and then pulled into aearby Circle K parking lot. After the driver and passenger, Isaacs and Wyatt, did their own surveillance to see if anyone was watching, they drove towards the bike, the release stated.
Isaacs then got out and swiped the bait bike and put it in the van. As they drove off with the bike, backup units reportedly stopped their van.
The couple allegedly 'fessed to driving around and swiping bikes "all the time."
Hopefully the cops put some permanent brakes on their cycle of crime.
Now this couple is gearing up for some court time.Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
