The Owls (31-20, 19-8) are the No. 1 seed after winning their second Sun Belt regular season title in the last three seasons.
The Hilltoppers (24-31, 13-17) are the tournament host and No. 8 seed.
At stake is the Sun Belt's automatic spot in an NCAA regional. No Sun Belt team is expected to get an at-large bid based on the conference's low RPI this season.
The Sun Belt tournament uses a round-robin format, with two four-team pools, with each team playing three games in its pool and the winner from each pool facing in a winner-take-all championship game.
Two teams are off one day during the four days of round-robin play, with FAU’s not coming until Saturday, meaning the Owls will play three games in three days starting with Wednesday’s opener.
FAU is 6-3 versus the teams in Pool A, going 2-1 against them in the three game regular season series.
Game times for the this year’s tournament are 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday with the championship game scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. CT. The championship game will be televised live by the Sun Belt Network.
