( Photo from the web / April 10, 2012 ) In 2006 George Allen was running for re-election of his U.S. Senate seat. During the campaign, on more than one occasion, Allen used the word macaca to refer to a young man filming him for his opponent's campaign. Macaca is an epithet for North African indigenous people. Allen insisted he had never heard the word before and later apologized for its use. |
