Grandview Prep senior guard Ivan Canete finished seventh in voting for this year's Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Basketball, the results of which were released Tuesday.
Orlando Lake Highland Prep junior guard Joel Berry won the award for the second consecutive year, joining four others, including Pine Crest's Brandon Knight (2009-10) as two-time winners. Berry, who has verbally committed to the University of North Carolina, garnered 184 points from the statewide panel of high school basketball coaches and media members.
The 6-foot-4 Canete received 56 points, including one second-place vote and three third-place votes, in voting for the state's top honor after being named the Class 2A Player of the Year.
He averaged 24 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.2 steals in leading the Pride to the first state championship in program history and a 30-2 record this year. He was named most valuable player of the 2A tournament, capping a season in which he scored at least 30 points in seven games, with a season-high of 40.
