The Florida Derby is March 31 at Gulfstream Park Racing and Casino, and two events support Gulfstream’s horse-racing charities.
The Jockeys Race to the Bar will take place 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the Sport of Kings Lounge at Gulfstream (901 S. Federal Highway, Hallandale Beach, 954-454-7000, GulfstreamPark.com). For $10, guests will be treated to live entertainment, hors d’oeuvres and jockeys acting as bartenders. Hopefully, they won’t need a ladder if someone orders a top-shelf drink.
At 6:30 p.m. Thursday, the park will host a $10,000 guaranteed poker tourney called Aces for Aftercare. The $150 buy-in tournament includes Hall of Fame jocks and trainers playing with the public. At the Feb. 24 tournament, leading trainer Todd Pletcher shared the top prize with two other players. Call the poker room at 954-457-6336.
Money from those two activities will benefit the Gulfstream Park Thoroughbred After-Care Program and the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund.Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
