I wrote earlier about Gulfstream Park Racing & Casino and its inaugural Jockeys vs. Joes Poker Tournament, but wanted to put out a reminder.
It carries a $10,000 guarantee and it’s at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Gulfstream’s poker room.
Proceeds will benefit the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (www.pdjf.com) and Gulfstream Park Thoroughbred After-Care Program (www.gpaftercare.com).
Jockeys committed to play include John Velazquez, Joe Bravo, Javier Castellano, Rajiv Maragh, Manoel Cruz and retired Hall of Fame rider Angel Cordero.
Limited to 100 players, the $150 buy-in tournament will start with 4,000 units (as of Thursday there's the 10 jockey spots, more than 30 pre-sold spots, so 50-60 seats left). There will be unlimited re-buys ($20 and $40) during the first three rounds and single re-buys at or below 2,000 units. There will also be double and single re-buys to players at zero units. After the re-buy period an add-on will be available to all players.
There will also be door prizes from Gulfstream Park, Christine Lee’s and The Village at Gulfstream Park. John Velazquez will also autograph the silks of his Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom.
