Greyhound adoption fee waived in October

The Palm Beach Kennel Club, Greyhound Pets of America and Elite Greyhound Adoptions are offering free adoptions in October, which is Greyhound Adoption Month in Florida, according to a state senate resolution passed in 2004.

The adoption groups offer applications online and will interview potential families. Once applicants are approved, the pets are placed, while the organizations offer continued support. The kennel club usually charges $200 for an adoption.

Proponents of greyhound adoptions say the dogs are gentle, friendly, affectionate and havea wonderful temperament, even around children. They also make walking and jogging companions, they say.

The Palm Beach Kennel Club works with Greyhound Pets of America and Elite Greyhound Adoptions, volunteer, non-profit groups, to find good homes for retired greyhounds. The groups screen and inform potential adopters in order to find the right dog for the right person or family.
