Miami Dolphins set to host FinsWeekend this weekend

This week the Miami Dolphins will throw the coolest series of events the franchise features.

I typically get called on to attend or participate in events all the time. Here is the truth....VERY few of them I actually enjoy, but FinsWeekend just so happens to be one.

FinsWeekend is the team's largest annual event, which features current players, alumni, coaches, executives and cheerleaders for three day events on May 16-18.

The three-days features a weekend of golf, fishing, good food and tons of celebrities. All proceeds from FinsWeekend benefit the Miami Dolphins Foundation and the event has raised more than $3 million for local charities.

The festivities begin on Thursday, May 16, with the Celebrity Draw Party at Turnberry Isle. The party will include cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and interactive games such as putting, chipping, pitch shot and sand shot for unique prizes.

On Friday, May 17, Dolphins players and alumni hit the green at Turnberry Isle’s in Aventura for the FinsWeekend Golf Tournament. Players will tee-off with a shotgun start followed by a luncheon.

Later that evening, the popular Hook & Tackle Captain’s Party will take place at the Miami Beach Marina, which will feature a silent auction and entertainment. Players are everywhere, and the head coach usually address the crowd. That's my favorite event.

The following morning, on Saturday, May 18, amateur and professional anglers will meet at the Miami Beach Marina for the Fishing Tournament. Participants will enjoy a day of offshore fishing accompanied by Dolphins players and alumni.

In the afternoon, all fishing participants will get together for the "Hooters" Weigh-in," which is free and open to the public starting at 4 p.m.

The first place finisher will receive a flight on the team charter to a Dolphins road game. That evening, attendees will gather for the Scott Financial/HMY Yacht Sales awards ceremony to find out who caught the biggest catch, and participate in a live auction that includes a 21 Foot Contender.

Most of the events aren't cheap, but they are INDEED an enjoyable experience.
