Hurricane Andrew Monday, August 24, 1992 About 4:30 AM on Monday, August 24, 1992 we lost power at our home in Country Walk in SW Dade County. My wife and I, and our 6 year old son retreated to the master bedroom closet with a mattress placed over our heads. The winds were howling, the walls were shaking and the sound of a locomotive train seemed to be bearing down on us. An hour later, rain was entering the closet and we felt helpless but remained confident that we would make it through the night. After about three hours, as we heard one of our neighbors calling to us, we managed our way out of the closet and for the first time saw the total destruction of our home and neighborhood.
