Residential landlords must register in Coral Springs

Sun Sentinel

Coral Springs is serious about getting a handle on residential landlords.

In October, the city started requiring owners who lease housing units to register them. Now the landlords have to pay an annual fee of $56 to do so. An additional $79 inspection fee will apply to multi-family units.

To register, landlords must submit completed forms to City Hall, 9551 W. Sample Road. A $25 late fee will kick in after March 1.

Coral Springs has about 13,000 rental units owned by about 10,000 landlords.

The city wants to be able to contact owners in the event of an emergency or safety violation, said Jaci Foster, code compliance manager. In 2008, Coral Springs started requiring lenders to register foreclosed homes.
