Mike Tarbett of West Palm Beach teaches amateur beekeepers how to prepare a bee smoker. According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), bee pollination is responsible for $15 billion in added crop value, particularly for crops of nuts, berries, fruits and vegetables, making honeybees a vital part of our environment. Palm Beach County Beekeepers Association President, Jim Chapman, shares that "for every third bite of food you eat you should thank the honey bee." The Palm Beach County Beekeepers Association meets at 7 p.m. on the first Friday of the month at Mounts Botanical Garden in the Extension Auditorium located in West Palm Beach.
