As expected, thunderstorms and showers were sweeping across the region Tuesday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a strong thunderstorm was moving east near Pompano Beach shortly before 1 p.m. The weather system was affecting Pompano, Lighthouse Point, Deerfield Beach and surrounding communities, the weather service said.
South Florida's Tuesday forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with highs in the mid 80s and evening readings in the low 70s. There is a 60 percent chance of rain, and it could be heavy at times.
The rain chance remains high on Wednesday and Thursday, the result of moist unstable air associated with a low-pressure system over the Gulf of Mexico.
Central Florida's Tuesday forecast: Mostly cloudy with highs in the mid 80s, lows in the upper 60s and a 60 percent chance of showers and storms.
