Menopause the Musical

Las Vegas doesn’t always do the greatest job of rolling out the red carpet for middle-aged women. If you’ve left your hot-babe years in the rear-view mirror, you can feel invisible.

Fortunately, there is “Menopause the Musical,” where women of a certain age can count on having the certain kind of fun that brought them to Vegas in the first place.

“Menopause” is the hilarious story of four women who meet in a tussle over a sale-rack bra at Bloomingdale’s. The gals have seemingly nothing in common — well, nothing and everything: hot flashes, night sweats, memory loss, chocolate binges, looney libidos and all the rest.

The theater becomes that rarest of all Vegas rarities: a party zone for the 40-and-better crowd. The audience can get so raucous that ushers are occasionally dispatched for some librarian-like shushing.

But the show doesn’t just appeal to the menopause crowd, said Paige O’Hara, the Broadway veteran who plays the soap star in the show. “We get a lot of younger people and for the first 15 minutes they’re looking at us like we’re from outer space. But then they get into it and have a really great time.”
