This series of islands off North Carolina blends history, wildlife and recreation. Cape Hatteras Lighthouse was built in 1870 and is the tallest brick lighthouse in North America. Animals in and around the seashore include whales, gray trout, dolphins, crabs and waterfowl. Activities for visitors include collecting seashells, bird watching, kayaking and windsurfing.
