Winner: Paul Simon The childhood friends began as "Tom and Jerry" in the late '50s and went on to become pop-folk superstars in the 1960s when the single "The Sounds of Silence" was featured in "The Graduate." The partners' sometimes unstable relationship led to a breakup in 1964-'65, then another, more permanent one in 1970, right around the time of their hit record "Bridge Over Troubled Water" (something they apparently needed but didn't have). Simon went on to become a celebrated worldwide solo artist, while Garfunkel had a quieter life of acting, recording, poetry and family. The two regularly reunite for concert performances.
