President Carter attends a ceremony on Oct. 18 to mark the 20th anniversary of his signing legislation to create the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site in Atlanta. Carter,a Sunday school teacher since he was 18 years old, sa he is cutting ties with the Southern Baptist Convention because he finds it increasingly rigid in its views on the role of women.
