Safra's damaged penthouse

Edmond Safra's damaged penthouse is shown on Dec. 4, 1999 in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Billionaire banker Safra died Friday of suffocation in a pre-dawn fire set by two hooded intruders who burst into his Riviera penthouse. The murder of Safra, 67, a Lebanese businessman and founder of the Republic National Bank of New York, shocked the banking world and sent shudders through this quiet principality where royalty, wealth and high-rolling gamblers rub shoulders.
