The Burbank Public Library and Warner Bros. will present a screening of the animated film “The Iron Giant” next week. The film has been remastered with two new scenes added.

The screening will be presented from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. next Wednesday at the Buena Vista Branch Library, 300 N. Buena Vista St., and participants will have a chance to have their photo taken with a statue of the Iron Giant. Artwork from the film will also be on display.

In the film, 9-year-old Hogarth Hughes befriends a giant iron robot who falls to Earth following the launch of the Soviet satellite Sputnik in 1957 and must later save the small town where Hughes and his mother, Annie, live.

Wall Street Journal critic Joe Morgenstern called it “an instant classic” when it hit theaters in 1999. It earned nine Annie Awards and was also the directorial debut for Brad Bird, who went on to earn Best Animated Feature Film Oscars for his second and third animated films — “The Incredibles” and “Ratatouille.”
