On the Town: Courtney Korb installed as head of Realtor association

In and around Burbank, say the name “Korb,” and most people immediately think of the buying and selling of real estate.

That is because the Brad Korb Real Estate Group has been a well-known player in the local real estate market since the late 1970s.

As of this past week, the name “Korb” will also be associated with presidential leadership for members of the Burbank Assn. of Realtors who gathered to witness Courtney Korb installed as the organization’s 2018 president during a festive holiday gala at Glendale’s Vertigo Banquet Hall this past Saturday.

Korb, a third-generation Realtor who is the daughter of Brad and Nancy Korb, is the youngest person and first millennial to serve as the 96-year-old group’s president.

Adopting a presidential theme of “BAOR Cares!,” Courtney Korb told last weekend’s assemblage the focus of her term will be to further enhance the organization’s already well-established commitment and care to the community, local nonprofits, their members, and working with local and state government officials on legislation that pertains to real estate and property owners.

If the passing of the presidential gavel, from outgoing President Harry Timuryan to Courtney Korb wasn’t exciting enough for her, the following day certainly was impossible to top as she accepted a proposal of marriage and an engagement ring from Adam Vee.

Along with Korb, the executive committee who will lead the association through 2018 will be composed of Karol Kochova, Daniel Sanchez, outgoing President Timuryan and the group’s executive director, Cherrita Smith.

Rounding out the incoming leadership in their roles on the board of directors will be Leah Archer, Diana Burness, Robert Clark, Marty Del Cid, Stefan Doomanis, Courtney Lea Hall, Cameron Hunter, Emil Kirakosyan, Steven Marx and Bryann Ochse.

The presidential installation, which doubles as the group’s holiday party, also saw the bestowal of recognitions for those who have played a significant role with the association.

David Fogg was awarded the group’s Lifetime Achievement Award, Leah Archer was named Rising Star, Burbank Mayor Will Rogers received Citizen of the Year honors, Caleb Gonzalez received the Mary L. Vaughn Leadership Award, Lisa Matzner was named Affiliate of the Year and Christopher Rizzotti was given the Cunningham Community Service Award.

Among the dignitaries at the event, that was emceed by former association President Barry Burnett, were state Assemblywoman Laura Friedman (D-Glendale) and City Council members Bob Frutos and Sharon Springer.

The Burbank Assn. of Realtors is a professional trade organization representing Realtors and affiliate members engaged in real estate that has been serving Burbank since 1922.

The organization established a community service foundation in 1986 that operates as the group’s charitable arm.

Among those who have benefited from the group’s philanthropy over the past quarter century are local high school seniors who have received scholarships, Habitat for Humanity, the Burbank YMCA, Burbank Temporary Aid Center, the Kids Community Dental Clinic and Family Promise of the Verdugos.
