Burbank Unified holds new logo contest

Share

To mark Burbank Unified’s 90th anniversary, school officials are abandoning the logo they’ve used for nearly 20 years in favor of a new one to be drawn up by a student or community member.

The district’s current logo, featuring a man, a woman and a child with the words, “Equity and Excellence” underneath them, was adopted by school officials in early 1998, said Kimberley Clark, spokeswoman for the district.

As part of a contest the district is running through mid-November, school officials hope current or former students or residents — or those who work in Burbank — will submit entries for a new logo.

The top three logos will be selected by a review committee before Burbank Unified Supt. Matt Hill picks the “winning” entry, according to contest rules.

The new logo will be used in the school district’s advertising and included on its stationary and other business materials.

However, one aspect can’t change between the old logo and the new one, according to the rules, which state that the slogan, “Equity and Excellence” must be incorporated into the new image.

School officials want the new logo to be “instantly viewable, understandable and stimulating,” according to the contest guidelines.

The deadline to enter the contest is Nov. 15.
