Authorities are investigating what led to a collision between a freight train and a vehicle in Burbank early Wednesday morning.

A Toyota Corolla was struck by a passing train around 4 a.m. near the intersection of Buena Vista and Vanowen streets, according to Sgt. Derek Green, a spokesman for the Burbank Police Department. The woman driving the car left the vehicle prior to the collision, he added.

“[The engineer and conductor on the train] saw the female and tried to slow the train down but were unable to stop in time,” Green said.

Prior to the collision, Green said the woman told officers that she tried to make a left turn from Buena Vista onto Vanowen but mistakenly ended up on the railroad tracks and became stuck.

Neither drugs nor alcohol are considered to be factors in the collision, and no injuries were reported.

Train service was restored just before 6 a.m.
