Burbank police are investigating an alleged gang-related assault involving several suspects who, reportedly armed with sticks and a sledgehammer, challenged two people driving near Robert Lundigan Park to fight, officials said.

At around 8:15 p.m. Monday, the two victims — a 21-year-old man and a juvenile girl — told police that they were driving slowly, looking for an address near the park, when several men surrounded the car holding the weapons, said Burbank Police Sgt. Claudio Losacco.

One suspect reportedly reached into his waistband and yelled “gang-related challenges” at the victims, he added.

The victims told the suspects that they were not affiliated with gangs and drove away.

No suspects were located at the scene.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Burbank Police Det. Henry Garay at (818) 238-3210.
