Sports Roundup: Burroughs, Providence girls’ basketball earn league wins

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Burroughs 65, Hoover 8: The Indians remained undefeated in Pacific League play with the win Monday afternoon at home.

Dyani Del Castillo had 12 points, Sophie Hawkins had 11 points and Kayla Wrobel had 11 points and seven rebounds for Burroughs (12-5, 3-0 in league).

Providence 63 Milken Community 40: Melissa Zozulenko had 23 points, eight rebounds and six steals to pace the Pioneers in their Liberty League opener Tuesday evening at home.

Sarah Cox added 12 points and six rebounds for Providence (11-5).

Pasadena 87, Burbank 42: Burbank slipped to 11-5, 1-2 in the Pacific League with the loss Monday evening on the road.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Pacifica Christian 85, Providence 47: The Pioneers (10-6) fell on the road Tuesday to open Independence League play.

Pasadena 62, Burbank 45: Burbank suffered a Pacific League loss Monday evening at home.

Tyrese Willis led Burbank (6-11, 1-2 in league) with 16 points.

Mesrobian 51, Lycee International of Los Angeles 48: The Lions (2-4, 2-3 in the International League) lost Monday afternoon at Olive Recreation Center.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Pasadena 2, Burbank 0: Burbank gave up two second-half goals in the Pacific League defeat Tuesday.

Burbank dipped to 1-3-1 in league.

Buckley 2, Providence 0: The Pioneers fell Tuesday afternoon in a nonleague match at Occidental College.

Providence is 4-3-1

Burroughs 5, Hoover 0: Trinity Vournas had two goals and Abbie Riggs dished out four assists to lead the Indians to a Pacific League win Tuesday in the pouring rain.

Burroughs (9-2-1, 4-1 in league) led at the half, 1-0.

Pasadena 2, Burbank 1: Host Burbank (1-7-1, 0-4-1 in league) dropped a Pacific League match Tuesday.
