Sports Roundup: Providence baseball notches nonleague win

BASEBALL

Providence 6, St. Genevieve 3: Stephen Knezevich delivered a two-run double in the sixth inning for the go-ahead run in a nonleague win Friday afternoon at Foy Park.

Michael Bin picked up the win in relief for Providence (2-1), which received run-scoring singles from Kobe Siy and Alec Saavedra and an RBI double from Sage Del Castillo.

BOYS’ GOLF

Burbank, Burroughs in Pacific League match No. 2: The Bulldogs placed second and the Indians were fourth in the contest Thursday afternoon at Santa Anita Golf Course.

Burbank had a team total of 429 to finish second behind Arcadia (429), while Burroughs had 443.

The top local finisher was the Bulldogs’ Louis Calzado, who fired a four-over-par 75. He was followed on Burbank by Jason Snow (83), Niko Coccio (84), Cole Pendarvis (90) and Dennis McCarthy (97).

Louis D’Aquila was the Indians’ top finisher with an 80. The team’s other scorers were Aaron Cohen (83), Jake Panikowski (92), William Guglielmo (91) and Dylan Roy (97).

BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Arcadia 72 , Burroughs 64: Sammy Duran was a double winner for the Indians Thursday in a Pacific League meet at home.

Duran won the 200 meters (22.8 seconds) and the 400 (52.3). Other Burroughs winners were Daniel Fendrich in the 800 (1:59), Jagdeep Chahal in the 1,600 (4:34), Alexander Hirsch in the 3,200 (9:43), Christian Valles in the high jump (14 feet) and Azael Estrada in the high jump (5-8).

GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Arcadia 90, Burroughs 45: Emily Virtue was a double winner for the Indians in the Pacific League meet Thursday at home.

Virtue took the 800 meters (2 minutes, 21.2 seconds) and the 1,600 (11:14.1). Other winners for Burroughs were Kate Jones in the 400 (64.1) and Nadime Younan in the discus (100 feet, 4 inches).

BOYS’ TENNIS

Glendale 12, Burroughs 6: The Indians slipped to 1-2 in the Pacific League with the loss Thursday afternoon at home.

Arcadia 16, Burbank 2: The Bulldogs fell to the defending Pacific League champions Thursday afternoon in a match at home.

Burbank is 2-2, 1-1 in league.
