Sports Roundup: Burroughs volleyball opens league with sweep

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Burroughs d. Arcadia, 25-13, 25-21, 25-20: The Indians opened Pacific League play with a win Tuesday afternoon on the road.

Burroughs (5-5), winner of seven straight league championships, has now won 44 straight league contests dating back to 2013.

Jarrett Malone had 17 kills and 16 digs and Conner Ludlum added 12 kills for the Indians, who also received 25 assists from Levi Benitez, 14 assists from Everett Kanoho and 18 digs from Skyler Bercini.

BASEBALL

Cleveland 6, Burbank 2: The Bulldogs surrendered six runs in the top of the seventh inning Monday in the loss in the Babe Herman Tournament.

Davis Mieliwocki had a double and a home run and Max Meltzer drove in a run for Burbank (4-4), which had 10 hits.

SOFTBALL

Providence 9, Sacred Heart of Jesus: The Pioneers earned the nonleague victory Monday afternoon on the road.

Giselle Camonayan and Bella Angobung both went three for four and pitcher Celeste Lee had eight strikeouts for Providence (2-3).

GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Burroughs in Maurice Green Invitational: The Indians had one top-three finish in Saturday’s event at Oaks Christian High.

Elizabeth Switzer placed third in the pole vault with a 9-foot effort.
