Sports roundup: Hat trick propels Burroughs soccer to win in league opener

BOYS’ SOCCER

Burroughs 4, Muir 0: Jake Lasso-Spell had a natural hat trick Tuesday afternoon to lead the Indians to a victory at Memorial Field.

Lasso-Spell scored his goals in the 29th, 41st and 69th minutes. Anton Prather had three assists for Burroughs (3-0-1), which held a 1-0 lead at halftime. Andrew Bardales scored the fourth goal.

“It was tight in the first half,” Indians Coach Mike Kodama said. “But we were really able to come on in the second half. It helped when Jake scored in the first minute after halftime.”

Goalkeeper Jordan Morgan made nine saves in the shutout.

Glendale 2, Burbank 1: The Bulldogs (0-3) fell Tuesday afternoon against the visiting Nitros in their Pacific League opener.

Burroughs 1, Newbury Park 1: Nicky Reinoso scored on a volley at the top of the box with a minute left to salvage a tie for the Indians Saturday night in pool play of the Ralph Brandt Tournament at Memorial Field.

The tie advanced Burroughs to the championship quarterfinals, where it will play at 7 p.m. Friday against Sherman Oaks Notre Dame at Memorial Field.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Burroughs 1, Eagle Rock 0: The Indians tallied the match’s only goal in the second half to pull out the nonleague win Tuesday on the road.

Tatiana Mosdale scored the goal on a corner kick by Maddie Riggs. The shutout was spearheaded by fine play in the midfield by Mireya Gonzalez, Alondra Solis and Maddy Sena. Goalkeepers Emma Bartram and Emilt Orsatt combined on the shutout for Burroughs (2-0).

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Providence 51, San Gabriel Mission 19: Ariel Gordillo had 14 points, seven steals and six rebounds to pace the Pioneers on Tuesday in a pool-play game of the Pasadena Poly Tournament.

Christa Kurkjian and Christina Galstjan added eight points apiece for Providence.

The Pioneers (3-2) blew the game open in the second quarter with a 21-3 showing to lead at the half, 35-11.

Eagle Rock 41, Burroughs 36: The Indians opened their season Monday evening with a loss in Gold Division pool play of theBurroughs Tournament.

Lycee International of Los Angeles 44, Le Lycee Francais 37: The Lions improved to 3-0 with the victory Friday at the Olive Recreation Center.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Providence 49, Bosco Tech 47: Matthew Meza hit a layup at the buzzer to lift the Pioneers to a win Tuesday in pool play of the Pasadena Poly Tournament.

Harout Nazarian led Providence (2-3) with 15 points, while David Grigoryan chipped in with 13.

The Pioneers trailed, 34-29, after three quarters and won the fourth quarter, 20-13.

Burbank 68, Royal 61: The Bulldogs improved to 5-1 with the victory Tuesday evening in the first round of the Venture County Classic.

Lycee International of Los Angeles 60, Aveson 49: The Lions improved to 2-0 with the victory Monday at Olive Recreation Center.
