Wilson concludes stellar debut season

One of the finest swimming campaigns in city history came to a close on Friday afternoon at the 2017 CIF State Swimming and Diving Championships at Clovis High.

Burroughs High freshman standout Maya Wilson swam to a 25th-place mark of 1 minute 53.50 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle preliminaries.

The top 16 advanced to the final day on Saturday.

Wilson was the only area girls’ swimmer to advance to a CIF Southern Section Division II championship race and was the only area swimmer, boy or girl, to accept a bid to the state championships.

Tubert makes cut at Kingsmill Championship

Burroughs High alumna Emily Tubert matched her effort from Thursday’s opening round of the LPGA Kingsmill Championship in Williamsburg, VA with a one-over 71 at Friday.

The 71 matched Tubert’s 71 from Thursday as the rookie, who has a Rolex World ranking of No. 496, has a two-day total of even-par 142.

While Tubert is tied with nine players for 65th place, the good news is that the Burbank native just made the cut by one stroke and earned advancement to Saturday’s third round.

Tubert will be teeing off in the third group at 6:25 a.m. (PDT).
