The Burbank High girls’ tennis team was relegated to third place in the Pacific League this season.

However, the Bulldogs’ only losses came against league-champion Arcadia, ranked No. 4 in CIF Southern Section Division I, and Crescenta Valley (No. 1 in Division III).

“Playing against teams like that, I would have thought that we would at least get a home match for the playoffs,” Burbank coach Loi Phan said.

That didn’t happen.

Burbank will open the Division II playoffs with a wild-card match at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hart. The CIF playoff pairings were released for all five divisions Monday.

“Division II is really tough as it is,” Phan said. “But to have to have a wild card and then have to play a very good team in the fist round is not good at all.

“Well, we can just go out and do the best that we can. I just wish we had gotten a little more respect after finishing behind two top teams from our league.”

The Bulldogs (8-4) lost to champion Arcadia and runner-up Crescenta Valley twice each.

Hart (9-7) placed third in the Foothill League behind champion West Ranch and runner-up Valencia (both Division I teams).

In nonleague action this season, Hart lost to Glendale, 13-5, and Burbank defeated the Nitros in two league matches.

If the Bulldogs are victorious Tuesday, they will travel to Dos Pueblos (15-3, Channel League co-champion) for a first-round match Wednesday.
