Weekly Football Previews: Glendale at Burbank; Pasadena at Burroughs; Bell-Jeff at Flintridge Prep

GLENDALE AT BURBANK

•WHEN: 7 p.m. Friday

•WHERE: Burbank High

•RECORDS: The Bulldogs are 1-2; the Nitros are 2-1

•LAST WEEK: Burbank had a bye; Glendale defeated Vasquez, 32-27

•OUTLOOK: The Bulldogs are coming off a bye week after losing their final nonleague game Sept. 8 against Downey, 35-7. Friday will mark just the second time in 70 years that Burbank will host a game on campus. The game is the Pacific League opener for the Bulldogs and Nitros. Last season, Burbank placed second in league behind Crescenta Valley, while Glendale finished eighth out of eight teams. The Nitros enter the contest on a two-game winning streak, the program’s first back to back wins since 2013. Burbank junior quarterback Matthew Porras has passed for 414 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions.

•SOMETHING INTERESTING: The last time Burbank played a game on campus was in 2008, with the Bulldogs losing to Torrance, 35-0.

PASADENA AT BURROUGHS

•WHEN: 7 p.m. Friday

•WHERE: Memorial Field (Burroughs High)

•RECORDS: The Indians are 1-1; the Bulldogs are 0-3

•LAST WEEK: Burroughs lost to Diamond Ranch, 38-23; Pasadena had a bye

•OUTLOOK: The Indians begin Pacific League play after a loss in their final nonleague game. Burroughs is looking to earn a spot in the playoffs after missing the postseason a year ago after placing fifth in league. Against Diamond Ranch, Burroughs received a fine effort from senior running back Ben Peters, who finished with 140 yards rushing in 20 carries, including a 68-yard touchdown run. Pasadena, which finished sixth in league in 2016, has been outscored, 109-46, in its three games, which included losses to Buena Park, 31-25, Maranatha, 36-21, and St. Francis (42-0).

•SOMETHING INTERESTING: Burroughs has been victorious in three of its last four Pacific League openers.

BELLARMINE-JEFFESRON AT FLINTRIDGE PREP

•WHEN: 7 p.m. Friday

•WHERE: Flintridge Prep

•RECORDS: The Guards are 0-2; the Rebels are 2-2

•LAST WEEK: Bell-Jeff lost to Discovery Prep, 36-6; Flintridge Prep lost to Cate, 70-20

•OUTLOOK: The Guards will be looking to spring back after struggling in their first two nonleague games of the season. In its two contests, which included a 58-20 loss to La Verne Calvary Baptist, Bell-Jeff has been outscored, 94-26. The only touchdown in the loss to Discovery Prep was scored by senior quarterback Ronald Jurok on a 50-yard run early in the second quarter. Flintridge Prep will also be looking to right its ship after losing two of its last three. The Rebels have wins against Fulton Prep, 72-0, and Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies, 37-34.

•SOMETHING INTERESTING: The Guards will be looking to snap a six-game losing streak.
