Sports Roundup: Burroughs, Burbank split league swim meet

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Burbank 98, Burroughs 74: Roman Rostomyan and Justin Miller won two events each to pace the Bulldogs to a Pacific League victory Tuesday afternoon at Burroughs.

While Rostomyan was first in the 100-yard backstroke (56.24 seconds) and the 200 freestyle (1:49.74), Miller took the 50 freestyle (23.08) and the 100 freestyle (50.20).

“In a meet like this against Burroughs, I just want to go out there and have fun,” Rostomyan said. “Since it is Burroughs and they are our cross-town rivals, it’s always that much more competitive.

“Since this is my last rivalry meet, I just wanted to go out and do the best that I could. ... I thought it was not bed for me today.”

The Burroughs 200 medley relay team of Josh Flinchbaugh, Reigh Abaoag, Derek Duran and Drew Baelly won in a CIF-consideration time of 1:43.35. Abaoag also won the 100 butterfly (53.67) and the 100 breaststroke (1:00.82).

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Burroughs 98, Burbank 68: Maya Wilson was a double winner for the Indians in the Pacific League home victory Tuesday afternoon at home.

Wilson was first in the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 59.49 seconds) and the 100 butterfly (1:01.55).

“This is the second year that we’ve split with them in this meet,” Burroughs Coach Jacob Cook said. “We went up against them in the Pacific League relays and we saw what they had and we knew it was going to be close.

“It was a great meet and the energy level was really high, so that’s always nice to see.”

Michelle Morlock won two events for the Bulldogs, the 50 freestyle (27.44) and the 100 backstroke (1:10.60).

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Burbank d. Glendale, 25-17 25-21 25-15: Adrian Rivera had 16 kills and 12 digs to pace the Bulldogs to a Pacific League win Tuesday at home.

Jonathan Ragheb added 12 kills and 11 digs and Jonathan Tapan had 31 assists for Burbank (17-10, 5-3 in league).

Pacifica Christian d. Providence, 22-25, 25-19, 25-18, 22-25, 18-16: Zack Pikhart had 18 kills for the Pioneers in the Liberty League loss Tuesday at home.

Patrick Casella contributed 13 kills, Westin Tengan had 24 digs and Carl Menke had seven blocks for Providence (2-3 in league).

St. Bernard d. Bellarmine-Jefferson, 12-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-14: The Guards slipped to 1-3 in the Santa Fe League with the loss Tuesday on the road.

SOFTBALL

Arcadia 5, Burbank 4: The Bulldogs surrendered two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday in the Pacific League loss on the road.

Burbank is 7-13, 5-4 in league.

Burbank in El Segundo Tournament: The Bulldogs split a pair of games Saturday.

In the second game, Burbank defeated Hawthorne, 8-4, collecting 11 hits. Erin Lashkari was two for three with a home run and two runs batted in and Melissa Daniel was two for four with two RBI.

In the opener, the Bulldogs lost to Westlake, 7-2. Lashkari, Daniel, Alex Davis and Alyssa De La Torre had Burbank’s four hits.

Archer 2, Providence 0: Pioneers pitcher Celeste Lee gave up three hits and one earned run while striking out five in six innings in the Liberty League loss Tuesday on the road.

Christy Hoffman was two for three with a double for Providence (5-5, 2-1 in league).

BASEBALL

Arcadia 5, Burroughs 3: The Indians had just three hits Tuesday in the Pacific League loss on the road.

Justin Palafox was two for four with a run scored and a run batted in for Burroughs (12-9, 7-2 in league).

Burbank 2, Hoover 1: The Bulldogs improved to 10-8, 6-3 in the Pacific League with the victory Tuesday on the road.

Providence 5, de Toledo 2: Pitcher Sage Del Castillo threw a complete game, striking out 11, to lead the Pioneers to a Liberty League win Tuesday at the West Hills Baseball Complex.

Stephen Knezevich was three for four with two runs batted in for Providence (5-10, 2-1 in league).

GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Burbank in Burbank Backward Meet: The Bulldogs 4x400-meter relay team of Julia Skillsky, Chloe Tilton, Kira Bochard and Haleigh Cusamano set a new school record of 4 minutes, 4.50 seconds Saturday at Memorial Field.

Bochard also won the 300 hurdles (45.99) and Mikaela Teixeira won the pole vault (11 feet).

Burroughs in Burbank Backward Meet: Heidi Eligio was a double winner in the meet Saturday at Memorial Field.

Eligio won the 3,200 meters (11 minutes, 48.16 seconds) and the 1,600 (5:27). Nadime Younan placed first in the discus (109 feet).

Bellarmimne-Jefferson in Burbank Backward Meet: Adaleigh Ramos placed second in the 300-meter hurdles in 50.23 seconds Saturday at Memorial Field.

BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Burbank in Burbank Backward Meet: The Bulldogs had two individual winners Saturday at Memorial Field.

Sergio Aguilar won the 300-meter hurdles (40.72 seconds) and Vedavit Shetty won the triple jump (43 feet, 6 inches).

Burroughs in Burbank Backward Meet: Christian Valles took first in the pole vault with a personal-best of 15 feet Saturday at Memorial Field.

Jagdeep Chahal was first in the 800 meters (1 minute, 56.74 seconds).

BOYS’ GOLF

Providence 276, Pacifica Chriatian 310: The Pioneers earned a Liberty League victory Monday afternoon at De Bell Golf Club.
