Sports Roundup: Providence girls’ basketball claims share of league title

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Providence 47, Pilibos 45: The Pioneers clinched a share of the Liberty League championship Friday evening at home.

It is the eighth title in nine seasons and last in the Liberty League for Providence (18-6, 8-1 in league), which will jump to the Prep League next season. Providence can clinch the outright title Monday against host Canoga Park Armenian General Benevolent Union.

Melissa Zozulenko led the way for the Pioneers with 15 points, five rebounds and five steals, while Ariel Gordillo chipped in with 11 points and Giselle Camonayan and Sarah Cox added six points each.

Lycee International of Los Angeles 51, Sequoyah 24: The Lions notched an International League victory Thursday at McCambridge Park Recreation Center.

LILA is 5-7 in league.

Burbank 49, Muir 19: The Bulldogs earned the Pacific League win Friday evening on the road.

Burbank improved to 10-16, 5-7 in league.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Burbank 3, Muir 1: The Bulldogs improved to 5-7-4, 4-6-2 in the Pacific League with the victory Friday afternoon on the road.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Canoga Park Armenian General Benevolent Union 1, Providence 0: The Pioneers suffered their first loss in an International League match Friday afternoon at Occidental College.

Providence (10-1-2, 6-1 in league) clinched the league championship Wednesday.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Pilibos 48, Providence 45: The Pioneers were eliminated from Independence League title contention with the loss Friday at home.

Providence, the reigning league champion, is 16-9, 6-3 in league.

Muir 84, Burbank 56: The Bulldogs dropped their third straight Pacific League game Friday afternoon on the road.

Burbank slips to 15-10, 5-7 in league.

Crescenta Valley 73, Burroughs 48: The loss Friday evening on the road was the fourth straight in the Pacific League for the Indians.

Burroughs dropped to 12-12, 3-9.
