GIRLS’ SOCCER

Santa Ynez 4, Burroughs 0: The Indians saw a fine season come to an end Thursday afternoon with a loss on the road in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division IV playoffs.

Burroughs, the runner-up from the Pacific League, ended its season with a 15-3-3 record.

“Our team got beat by a better team today,” Burroughs coach Brady Riggs said. “All credit goes to Santa Ynez; they were fast, physical and well-coached.

“From our perspective, it’s the best year we’ve had in recent memory. ...Can’t say enough about our seniors and the leadership on this team.”

Against Santa Ynez (17-1-1), the Los Padres League champion, the Indians trailed by just one at halftime. But the Pirates scored three goals in the first five minutes of the second half to take a commanding lead.

Burroughs earned a 1-0 wild-card win against Brentwood on Tuesday to open the playoffs.
