Sports Roundup: Burroughs girls’ soccer, water polo fall in CIF wild-card matches

Alemany 4, Burroughs 0: The Indians fell Tuesday in a CIF Southern Section Division IV wild-card road match. Burroughs (12-9-2) trailed, 1-0, at halftime before Alemany scored three second-half goals.

“Alemany has a real good team and they were the better team,” said Burroughs Coach Brady Riggs, whose team took third in the Pacific League behind Arcadia and Crescenta Valley. “The first half was close and we had some chances in the first 15 minutes. Alemany made some plays in the second half and got those goals.”

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Tesoro 11, Burroughs 3: Burroughs dropped a CIF Southern Section Division V wild-card road match Tuesday. The Indians (10-9) got one goal each from Gwen Turla, Aleah Orozco and Bianca Sanchez, all in the second half.

“We’re happy with our season,” said Burroughs Coach Jacob Cook, whose team finished third in the Pacific League. “Tesoro had a well-conditioned team and some excellent players.

“We’re already excited about next year with a lot of our starters coming back.”
