Laguna to honor wartime vets

Share

Laguna Beach will honor veterans who lost their lives in war at an event Monday in Heisler Park.

In honor of Memorial Day, the Laguna Beach Exchange Club will hold its annual pancake breakfast from 7 to 10:30 a.m., and the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will pay tribute with a ceremony at 11 a.m.

Laguna Beach police officers and firefighters will flip the pancakes in the picnic area near Myrtle Street and Cliff Drive. The cost is $5 — though free for veterans — with proceeds benefiting programs to prevent child abuse.

The ceremony’s keynote speaker will be Howard Hills, a member of Laguna Beach’s American Legion Post 222 and a U.S. Constitution historian. Seating is limited, so visitors are urged to arrive early.

American Legion officials encourage organization representatives who will be bringing flowers to attach a label bearing the organization’s name and have the arrays in place by 10:30 a.m.

Attendees who plan to bring flowers should call Diane Connell at (949) 494-2065.
