Not wearing your seat belt? Laguna police will be looking for you

Share

Laguna Beach police will be on the lookout in the coming weeks for motorists not wearing seat belts during the Click It or Ticket national public safety campaign.

The campaign, which runs through June 5, aims to raise awareness of the safety of wearing seat belts and the consequences when drivers and passengers travel unbuckled.

“Time after time, we see the deadly results that come from drivers and passengers refusing to wear a seat belt,” police Lt. Jeff Calvert said in a news release. “Wearing a seat belt is one of the most important steps in increasing survivability in a crash.”

In 2014, nearly half of 21,022 motorists killed in crashes nationwide were not wearing seat belts, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If crashes occurred between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., the percentage increased to 57%, the administration reported.
