Laguna Beach welcomes weekend of Art & Nature

Share

Two days remain of Laguna Art Museum’s fourth annual Art & Nature, an event composed of special exhibitions, a commissioned outdoor artwork, keynote lecture, panel discussion, sound performance and a family festival on the theme of art’s engagement with the natural world.

Visitors to Main Beach can view California artist Phillip K. Smith’s installation, “1/4 Mile Arc,” which reflects the changing colors of the ocean, sky, and shoreline throughout the day and night, according to a news release.

The installation contains about 250 stainless-steel poles with mirrored surfaces, Cody Lee, the museum’s director of communications, wrote in an email.

British art historian Martin Kemp, acknowledged as the world’s leading authority on Leonardo da Vinci, will speak about the iconic “Mona Lisa” as a statement of the artist’s ideas about nature. The presentation is set for 7 p.m. Saturday at the museum, 307 Cliff Drive.

The museum, in collaboration with several organizations such as the Beall Center for Art + Technology at UC Irvine, the Laguna Bluebelt Coalition and the Laguna Ocean Foundation, will host a free family festival at 2 p.m. Sunday.

In addition to events at the museum and Main Beach, organizers will partner with several local galleries and other organizations hosting Art & Nature-related exhibits through Sunday.
