Briefs: Youth baseball camp underway

A Youth Baseball Summer Camp is underway now through July 21 at the Laguna Beach High baseball field.

The camp is open to youth ages 5 to 14 including incoming freshman athletes and runs from 5 to 7 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday at Skipper Carrillo Field. Laguna Beach varsity baseball Coach Mike Bair, the Breakers coaching staff and current players, will lead campers through various baseball activities while teaching proper technique and fundamentals.

Hoops camp

A Summer Basketball Camp will start in August at the Laguna Beach High gymnasium.

The camp, run by Laguna Beach boys’ basketball Coach Bret Fleming, is open to youth in grades sixth through eighth. It will run from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 1-5. Registration information can be obtained through the City of Laguna Beach Recreation Dept. (https://lagunabeachcity.net).

Team USA takes on Russia

The U.S. Olympic Women’s Water Polo Team, which includes Makenzie and Aria Fischer of Laguna Beach, will host Russia in a three-game series beginning Thursday in San Diego at Cathedral Catholic High. The teams will play July 24 (2 p.m.) at UCLA, and July 27 (7 p.m.) at Stanford University.

Team USA recently swept Hungary in a three-game series on the East Coast that concluded earlier this month.
