Police are investigating after three unsuspecting victims were hit with pellets this week in a Newport Beach neighborhood.

In the three separate incidents, people reported being hurt by unknown projectiles in the 1900 block of Sherrington Place, Newport Beach police said in a news release.

Police later determined the projectiles were pellets and recovered some of them.

The first incident happened around 7 a.m. Sunday.

“A man was loading items into his van when he heard three pellets strike his van and then felt a fourth pellet strike him in the chin,” police said.

At about 10:30 p.m. that day, another man was getting in his car when he heard something hit the car’s door and then felt a pellet hit him in the upper back, police said.

Around 4 p.m. Monday, a male jogger was hit on an arm by a pellet, police said.

All three victims suffered minor injuries, police said.

It’s possible someone was shooting the pellets at the people, but Newport Beach police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella said investigators aren’t sure because they don’t have any witness accounts confirming there was a gun.

Police are trying to find out if there are more victims and are looking for help identifying any suspects.

Investigators asked that anyone with information contact Det. Justin Morouse at (949) 644-3762 or jmorouse@nbpd.org.
