Biz News: Appliance company Fisher & Paykel to open ‘experience center’ in Costa Mesa

Fisher & Paykel, a maker of kitchen and laundry appliances, is opening a new “experience center” on Feb. 19 next to its South Coast Metro offices in Costa Mesa.

The 6,500-square-foot showroom will be at 695 Town Center Drive. It will offer chances to see the appliances “in an environment designed to inspire and ignite creativity,” company officials said.

The center will include a culinary stage and live cooking stations.

Newport law firm has 40th anniversary

Bisnar Chase, a Newport Beach-based personal-injury law firm, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this month.

John Bisnar founded the firm in 1978. It now has six attorneys and more than 30 staff members specializing in catastrophic personal-injury cases, automotive defect cases, class actions, mass torts and cases involving defective pharmaceutical and medical devices, according to a news release.

“We’re going to continue to use our talents and our efforts to fight for justice for the little guy, be it an injured consumer or worker,” the firm’s senior partner, Brian Chase, said in a statement. “That’s what we’ve done and that’s what we’ll continue to do.”

Costa Mesa restaurant Onotria closes

Onotria, an Italian restaurant in Costa Mesa, closed Jan. 1.

The 12-year-old restaurant on Bristol Street shut down because of a leasing dispute, according to an announcement on its Facebook page.

Company buys H.B. apartment complex

A Los Altos-based company has acquired a Huntington Beach apartment complex.

Interstate Equities Corp. bought Surf at 39, a 400-unit complex at 16761 Viewpoint Lane that was built in 1972, for $134 million, Commercial Real Estate Direct reported.

The complex is set to undergo a renovation.

Newport landscaping firm to work on South Carolina projects

Lifescapes International, a Newport Beach-based landscape architectural firm, has been selected to design the landscape environment for two redevelopment projects in South Carolina, according to a news release.

Lifescapes will be working on the revamps of Barefoot Landing, a retail and entertainment complex in North Myrtle Beach, and Broadway at the Beach, a dining, retail and entertainment center in Myrtle Beach.

Ho Sum Bistro reopens after fire

Ho Sum Bistro in Newport Beach is scheduled to reopen Monday after rebuilding from fire damage.

The restaurant at 3112 Newport Blvd. was severely damaged in a fire in June 2016 that forced it to close. Officials estimated $450,000 worth of damage was done.

H.B. dentist honored by networking group

A Huntington Beach dentist was recently named Top Dentist of the Year by the International Assn. of Top Professionals, a New York-based networking organization.

Dr. Kimberly Okumura, a cosmetic and general dentist, has nearly three decades of experience in her practice and as a teacher. She received her doctor of dental surgery from USC.

Newport firm acquires IP assets of Singapore company

Vemanti Group, a Newport Beach-based technology holding company, recently acquired the intellectual property assets of a Singapore blockchain research and development company

SmartChain offers consulting, development, security assessment and training services in blockchain and smart contract projects, according to a news release. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Food director named at Resort at Pelican Hill

Hayato Nogaki has been named director of food and beverage for the Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Coast.

Nogaki has 15 years’ experience in the luxury hospitality industry, according to a news release. He last worked as the resort manager for Henderson Beach Resort in Destin, Fla.

Five Crowns names executive chef

Alejandra Padilla has been named executive chef of Five Crowns and SideDoor in Corona del Mar.

Padilla, who has appeared on the Food Network’s “Chopped” and the Cooking Channel’s “Unique Eats,” last worked as culinary manager for the Hillstone Restaurant Group.
