A white, powdery substance that was dropped along Bristol Street in Costa Mesa on Wednesday and investigated by a hazardous materials team posed no danger, authorities said.

Southbound Bristol Street was closed between Red Hill and Irvine avenues for roughly two hours Wednesday evening as hazmat crews investigated the substance, which reportedly was sprinkled in the area around 5 p.m., police said.

Investigators determined that the powder posed no danger and was distributed to mark a jogging path. Bristol Street reopened at 7 p.m.
